See Me – a poem

Imagination is a cruel thing

As boundless as the heart’s desire

As deceptive as an adolescent infatuation

For what perfection can the mind not conjure

Fantasy dethrones reality

The grime scrubbed away

The image buffed to a silvern lustre

But only in the mind’s eye

But reality does not cower for long

It ultimately reigns supreme

Its rule ever blatant

Its manner audacious

And so your fantasies were shattered

The shards of the stained glass which obscured me from you now a pile on the floor

You came expecting to frolic in the ocean

But you jumped over a puddle instead
